Movie reviews: The Others; Being There

Two movie review I've had kicking around, forgetting to post until I've already logged off:


The Others -- saw 4/16/05 -- Nicole Kidman. Good movie, tense but not "scary" -- no blood, little violence, little-to-no-cussing. Well-made. Only complaint: The scene with the old lady sitting on the floor (you'll see...) did not logically fit with the "rules" of the rest of the movie.

Being There -- saw 4/14/05 -- Peter Sellers. Developmentally disabled gardener in Washington, D.C. becomes the toast of the town, as people mis-interpret his simplistic utterings for deep wisdom. From 1979; viewing it from today's perspective, I saw parallels with the later-occurring Rain Man (1988; Tom Cruise, Dustin Hoffman).
