A satisfying blog-reading day

Every morning, I read five blogs. Tara is very good about posting nearly every day, as is John; Dave posts twice a week; Gye Greene posts every second day (on average); and C. Felton posts every two weeks (it seems!).

Today, all posted. Blog-wise, I am pleased. :)

Where are the "unique" bands of today?

Granted, I find myself falling out of touch with the popular music scene.

That said: where have all the "unique" bands gone? Bands where, either by listening, or by watching their performance, or both, you realize "Ah! That's [name of band]!"

Visually, I'm thinking of bands like Kiss and Devo -- bands that had a unique "look." Sonically, maybe Devo, The Ramones, The Cars.

Pink was pretty good -- the whole "pink hair" thing. And Steve Vai, when he was doing his "black and green thing" (1990s?).

Oh: And write solid, catchy songs, too.

Am I missing something? Some current or recent band with uniqueness, not derivitive-ness? If so, please inform me (via the Comments section).

Maybe The Rentals. But that's getting on for a few years, now.
